Filipino Girl Who Once Hated Math Now Works As a NASA Engineer VIDEO

There is one famous saying that goes: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” In this article we are going to tell you the story of a girl for who this saying become true. She is Josephine Santiago-Bond, a Filipino girl who had problems with math during her school and college life, but went on to become a NASA engineer.

It is difficult to imagine how can someone become a NASA engineer while not being good at math. Josephine said she never had clear career goals when growing up and she was more practical than ambitious.

During one of her interviews she said:

“As a child, I always knew I would go to college, get a job, try to earn enough to afford the things I need and want, but I had not envisioned a particular profession.”

Josephine grew up in the Philippines but was born in the United States while her parents were working on their Ph.Ds.

She shared her experience of growing up with parents who are doctors. Her 2 sisters also became doctors which put some pressure on her to follow their steps. Even though she respected their achievements, she was not eager to join them.

However, during her school days, one of her classmates encouraged her to take Electronics and Communications Engineering course at the University of the Philippines. But she still struggled with math even during her University days.

Josephine never thought that she would achieve a lot in her life. But, now she is working as department head of Advanced Engineering Development Branch. The journey was difficult but her confidence and determination helped her achieve her goal.

Becoming an engineer at NASA as a Filipino girl is definitely a milestone worth being proud of.
